I don't know if this relates but the Netziv has in a couple places the idea that the torah has differentiated instructions for different "classes" of Jews - leaders, talmidei chachamim, the amcha, maybe women and children - each one has their derech in avodas Hashem that would seem to be ideal for them.
one place is on mah Hashem Elokecha sho'el mei'imach in Eikev, another is the beginning of Nitzavim IIRC.
I know asking for sources can come off as annoying, but i'd love to learn this inside. Was this all on parshas bereishis?
